Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending a Boy Scouts of America fundraising breakfast.
Although the food was good, it was words that really fed my soul.
One of the speakers told a story about being on a very important hike years ago when suddenly
one of the climbers couldn’t continue. This meant that no one else could continue because they
were a team.
As they were examining the equipment and trying to figure out how to get either the equipment
or the climber’s legs to cooperate, someone had a novel idea. A fellow Boy Scout turned the
focus of attention to himself and volunteered to carry his friend’s backpack. It appeared that no
one had thought of lessening the load off the hiker’s back. After several minutes of serious
analysis and strategizing, it was finally realized that no adjustment was needed to the
equipment. Nothing needed to be done to strengthen the hiker’s legs. All he needed was a
friend to lighten his load. As a result, all of them made it to the top of the mountain together.
“I’ll carry your pack,” is all that needed to be said to restart the journey. Some relief of the heavy
load put the hiker back into the race.
Let me make it clear, my friends, “I’ll carry your pack!” Someone needs to hear that from you
today.
Happy Easter. He carried my pack.
