Happy February, beautiful people!
A few weeks ago, during a podcast interview, I was asked to name three things that are on my nightstand. Without hesitation, I responded, “A lamp, a multi-device charger, and my Faith’s Checkbook devotional.”
While I have other things on my nightstand, these are the main ones. The lamp is for when I have to get up unexpectedly in the middle of the night and I need a little bit of light to find my way through the dark. The multi-device charger is necessary because I want my phones and battery packs powered at 100% in order to withstand the day’s activity. Finally, my devotional contains the words needed to feed my soul and regulate my mind before I go to sleep and as I embark on a new day.
Then it hit me. My nightstand represents LIGHT, POWER, and the WORD! Something to guide my steps daily so that even when times are dark, I can move forward and ultimately reach my destination. Something to connect me to the main power source so I always have fuel for the journey and not have to solely rely on my own strength. And lastly something that keeps me still, focused, and in anticipation of God’s revelations and guidance.
I contend that as a nation of hurting and hopeful people, we are in need of what’s on my nightstand – light to see, power to sustain, and words to steer.
So where’s your lamp? What more do you need to navigate the dark days?
How strong is your connection? How full is your battery pack? Are you fueling up for the unpredictable parts of the journey? What is your source of power?
What words frame your mindset every day? Whose voice are you seeking before you begin your day and as you tuck in at night?
What’s on your nightstand? I believe the things that are on my nightstand help me handle what is on my desk, in my mailbox, and on my calendar. Light, Power, and the Word!
